Ted Blunt, who is running for lieutenant governor of Delaware, is hoping he is as popular with the state's voters as he was years ago when sides were being chosen for a neighborhood pickup basketball game.
Back then; Blunt was a cinch to be selected early, if not first.
When Blunt played basketball for Simon Gratz and Winston-Salem State University, he was an outstanding point guard. Blunt had the ability to run the offense. He could hit the open man. If the defense dropped off, he could hit the outside shot. On defense, he was a terrific ball-hawker.
He knew how to make his teammates better and he's carried these same qualities over to every day life.
Blunt, 63, has spent 32 years improving lives of many people in Wilmington, Del., as an administrator in the Red Clay Consolidated School District. He has a tremendous amount of experience in the political arena. He was a City Councilman from 1984-2000.
Blunt continued to climb the ladder of success becoming president of City Council from 2001-2008.
As with basketball, he knows how to play the game. He said he believes he knows what's important for not only Wilmington, but for the surrounding communities in Delaware. That's why he'll be running for lieutenant governor in 2008.
Blunt may not be as hot as Barack Obama but he feels it's time to take that big shot at the buzzer.
